A note from Sean
Try this today. Tonight, list the requests you made today, from “could you pass the salt” to a bigger ask at work. Next to each, write whether it worked and what helped. Then find one request you avoided. Notice your chest and belly as you think of it, and write down how you justified skipping it. Last, choose one request for tomorrow and jot one thing that would make it easier to hear a yes.
Keep going: Listening and Speaking with a Partner and What is Mindful Listening?.
This suits anyone who finds asking hard, and anyone who asks without noticing how it lands. Asking can stir up fear of a no, or old shame about needing help. If it does, go gently. Stop when you need to.
