    Self-Compassion Practice

Rick Hanson, a psychologist and author, talks about self-compassion practice. It can be easier to feel compassion toward others than toward yourself, simply because we don’t feel as much concern for ourselves.

    A note from Sean

Self-compassion doesn’t have to start with you. You can begin with someone or something that cares about you, a person, a pet, someone who is no longer around, and let that care in bit by bit. It doesn’t have to be you caring for you. You can just receive care.

Try this today. Bring to mind someone or something that cares about you, such as a friend, a pet, or a teacher. Picture them looking at you kindly. Let that care in for three breaths, and feel where the warmth lands in your body.

Keep going: Self Compassion by Sean Fargo and Befriending Yourself.

This suits anyone who finds it easier to care for others than for themselves. If thinking of someone brings up grief or old hurt, go gently. Choose an easier example, or just feel your feet. Stop when you need to.
