A note from Sean
I would not hand this practice to someone brand new to mindfulness, because all sorts of emotions can come up. I am not saying life is hard and then we die. I mean the opposite: life is precious when we really connect with it, and warm heart qualities like forgiveness and gratitude help before and after.
Try this today. Sit quietly for three breaths. Then ask the worksheet’s closing question: when I face the reality of death, what seems important? Let one answer come and write it down.

This is a contemplation on a hard subject, and it suits people who have practiced for a while. If you are grieving, facing a serious illness, or have lost someone recently, go gently, or leave it for another day. Stop when you need to. Afterward, do something warm and ordinary. If you are struggling, please reach out to someone you trust.
