A note from Sean
Later, as a monk, I went through phases of wanting certain people to think I was holier or more present than I was. I wanted them to admire me. I had a kind of spiritual career. That still creeps up now and then.
Try this today. Pick one decade, or one year, of your life. Feel your feet, close your eyes, and bring up a small scene from then. Ask the worksheet’s questions one at a time, with a breath between: What was my identity? What was I moving away from? With whom was I competing? Notice what your chest and belly do. Write a line or two. Move to another decade only if you feel steady.

This suits anyone at a turning point or looking back over a life. If looking back stirs regret or grief, go gently. Take one decade at a time. Stop when you need to.
