Gil Fronsdal talks about Settle the Heart First: resting in calm and settling the heart before speaking, or before letting go of regretful words.
A note from Sean
Sometimes the greatest thing we can do when we are caught in rage or fury is to pause. Feel it. Breathe with it. There is power in that pause. We can notice what is underneath, and allow it to be here before we say or do anything.
Try this today. Before your next charged reply, whether a text, an email, or a comment, stop for one breath. Feel your feet and notice where the feeling sits in your body: jaw, chest, or belly. Let your out-breath run long. Then decide whether to speak.
Keep going: Mindful Speech and Wise Speech.
This suits anyone who has said something they wanted back. If anger or grief is close, go gently. If you feel unsafe with someone, step away first. Stop when you need to.
