A note from Sean
Compassion is love in the midst of suffering, and self-compassion is love in the midst of our own. We can hold that suffering heavily or lightly, with a lot of focus or barely acknowledging it. Both are fine, and we do not always have to go deep.
Try this today. The next time something stings today, picture yourself at a younger age sitting beside you. Rest a hand on your chest and say what you would say to them, such as “I’m here.” Notice what your body does.

This suits anyone caught in a loop. If your childhood holds painful memories, go gently: choose a calmer age, or skip the picture and just rest a hand on your chest. Stop when you need to.
