This worksheet pairs a short reading with five reflection questions. Learning from nature is the practice of mindfully tuning into the natural world around you and noticing how it is reflected within you.

    The reading

The reading invites you to consider the turning of the seasons, trees extending roots below and branches above, the relationships within every landscape, the seeds that become fruit and vegetables, passing weather, and your likeness to other animals. If a natural place is within reach, you might spend some time there before answering the questions.

    Reflection questions

    1. What does nature have to tell us about life? What wisdom does it carry?
    2. Have you experienced greater clarity after time in a natural setting? What is the effect of stepping away from the busy, built-up world?
    3. How much time do you spend contemplating nature, and how might you invite it into your daily routine?
    4. If the natural world were trying to tell you one thing right now, what would it be?
    5. If it feels natural, set a nature-related intention, write it down, and repeat it silently a few times.
