Anam Thubten leads a meditation of nine breathing exercises. In this practice, “dead energies” means frozen energies such as stale emotions and stuck thoughts, and the breathing exercises are meant to release them.
A note from Sean
When I invite people to breathe a little deeper or slower, the main invitation is still to notice. How does this feel? How does it relate to emotion, and to our sense of safety? We notice how experience changes over time without reacting to it, suppressing it, or forcing it.
Try this today. Take three slower breaths, letting the belly and ribs move. Then breathe normally and notice any feeling in the body: warmth, tightness, buzzing. Leave it as it is.
Keep going: Whole Body Breathing and Embodied Awareness of Breathing.
This suits anyone who wants to feel more at ease in the breath and body. If you feel dizzy or tense, return to your natural breath. If breathing is difficult for any reason, skip the deeper breaths. If strong emotion comes up, go gently. Stop when you need to.
