Sylvia Boorstein, a cofounding teacher at Spirit Rock Meditation Center, leads a spontaneous meditation and says that spiritual practice happens even in community with others, so it’s everything.
A note from Sean
Mindfulness is simply being present, whether we’re meditating or not. We can be mindful in meditation, and also at work, in the living room, in the car. It’s not something we turn on or off. We can thread it through our day.
Try this today. In your next conversation, put your phone down and feel your feet. Listen to one full sentence without planning your reply. Take a breath before you answer, and notice what happens in your shoulders.
Keep going: Finding Meaning in Daily Activities and Mindfulness of Doing the Dishes.
This suits anyone who can’t find time to sit. If being around people feels tense or tiring, go gently. Step away when you need to.
