A note from Sean
Mindfulness is not about control, though a lot of people think it is. It is about noticing how things are and how they are changing. We can’t control all our thoughts, or what other people do or think.
Try this today. Pick one conversation today. Before you speak, feel your feet and take one slow breath. Then do what the worksheet’s first question asks: notice one specific thing you do to steer it, such as finishing a sentence, fixing, or explaining. Don’t stop it. Just feel where the urge sits in your body, maybe the jaw, chest, or hands.
Keep going: How to Practice Mindfulness In Relationships and Surrender Meditation (Letting Go of Control).
This suits anyone who suspects they manage, steer, or over-explain. If looking at this brings up shame or an old conflict, go gently. Stop when you need to.
