This worksheet invites you to look at pain, and at the story you tell about it, from a different angle. You write about an ordinary chore twice, once using “I, my, me, mine” and once without them, then repeat the exercise with a mildly painful experience (the worksheet suggests a 3 or 4 out of 10) and reflect on what changes.
It is a reflective writing exercise, not a treatment for pain. If you live with chronic or severe pain, it complements, and does not replace, care from your doctor or another health professional. If writing about a painful experience becomes distressing, you can stop and come back later.
