We could all use a little more mindfulness in our lives. Every day, more and more people find themselves drawn to mindfulness practices. The reason is clear: our lives are all too often filled with stress. We have deadlines to meet, traffic to navigate, relationships to manage, children to raise, bills to pay, bosses to please… the list seems endless at times. It’s easy to understand why so many people are looking for relief, balance, calmness, and clarity in the form of a mindfulness practice.
Perhaps you’ve already begun to incorporate mindfulness exercises into your daily life. Maybe you’re attempting to wash the dishes more mindfully, or be more present while preparing or eating a meal. Or, maybe you’re putting in the work to ensure that you’re more conscious and appreciative of the time that you spend with loved ones. If so, congratulations on your progress. It’s not always easy, and your progress may not be perfect; but, the important thing is that you’re on the path. You should practice gratitude and thank yourself for your hard work.
At the same time, many of us have friends, family members, and social connections who would benefit from bringing mindfulness and meditation into their lives, but who may not have been exposed to some of the ideas associated with a mindful and meditative life. In these cases, it can be helpful to share bits and pieces of mindful and/or meditative literature with people, as a means of encouraging them on their own path. Doing so brings joy to us at the same time, as we shine some of our own light for others to see by.
