Part 3: What Is Your “Calling”?

Pause to consider what it is that you seek in your work… Is it a job? A career? A calling? Research has shown that your subjective experience of the quality of your life is intimately connected to your work.

There are three ways that you may relate to your work: As a Job, a Career or a Calling. People who have Jobs are only interested in the material benefits from work and do not seek or receive any other type of reward from it.

The job is a means to an end – to acquire resources to enjoy time away from work. People who have a Career have more invested in terms of their social status, power, self-esteem and advancement. People who have a Calling focus on the fulfillment that comes to them from the work.
