Feeling Supported (by friends, family, etc.)

Hello, and welcome to this meditation! Finding support during pregnancy is an essential part of the journey. Aside from physical and material aid, emotional support may be the most valuable of all while you go through the ups and downs. Help can be a great comfort for you and your baby, and can help promote a healthy birth. Whether you look towards your partner, your friends, your doctor, or your family, you are never alone. This meditation will allow you to open your heart to help and support.

Find a nice, quiet place to get comfortable…and allow your eyes to gently close…

Now, take a moment to connect with the breath. Follow it as it flows…gentle inhales…gentle exhales…

While your mind and body relax with each breath…think about what support means to you. What images or feelings come to mind when you think of the word “support”? Do you feel grateful…happy? Or perhaps you feel stressed or angry. It’s okay…try not to judge..simply allow for now…

Think of those who support you…your partner, your friends…family…doctors…neighbors…

Even if you feel you don’t get as much encouragement as you’d like during your pregnancy, think of everyone who has taken the time to help you. This may be emotional support…or physical support…and outside of family and friends, do remember the acquaintances who offer indirect support, as well…bus or taxi drivers, store clerks, waiters…remember everyone who has offered a helping hand.

Think of the things that support you in a literal sense…your bed…your couch…an ottoman or stool…everything that has helped you along in your pregnancy…things that, perhaps, you’ve taken for granted…

Are there any people that you may have taken for granted? Sometimes during pregnancy, we become fixated on the self and on the baby…and rightly so…after all, this is a very important job that requires a lot of attention! Just know that you don’t have to

go it alone. It’s essential to retain some independence and to do some things for yourself, but understand that sometimes help is needed. Welcome the help, and express gratitude for each meal prepared, each foot rub, every compliment or word of encouragement…

See yourself sitting comfortably and supported, surrounded by everyone who’s been a part of your pregnancy journey. See their smiling, encouraging faces, and trust that they’re just as excited as you are! Trust that everyone would like to help in his or her own way, and that you are very loved and supported…

Take a deep breath in, now, and repeat…

“I am loved.”

And now, after your next inhale, exhale…

“I am safe.”

Another deep breath in and out…then repeat…

“I am supported.”

All together, now…

“I am loved…I am safe…I am supported!”

Repeat these words a few more times on your own…truly feeling the power behind them…and knowing that you can trust and believe in them…

When you’re ready to end this meditation, open your eyes and give yourself a nice stretch. You may return to this session any time you would like an extra dose of love, support, and encouragement.
