Embracing the Maternal Side | Mindfulness Exercises

Hello, and welcome to this meditation! During pregnancy, you may find that you’re embracing and developing your maternal side. This is the part of ourselves that nurtures, comforts, expresses, protects, and shows warmth and affection. Some women may find it difficult to connect with the mother within, but this powerful feminine archetype is present within us all. Motherhood simply enhances these aspects. I will guide you through a meditation that will help you connect with and celebrate this energy.

 

Go ahead and find a nice, quiet place to relax, and allow your eyes to slowly close. If possible, make sure that your feet or legs are touching the floor. To enhance this meditation, it’s recommended that you practice it outside. But this, of course, is not necessary, and is dependent on your comfort level…

 

Now, bring your hands together in a “V”­shape, and place them on your abdomen…just near the ovary areas. Make sure that you’re not pushing, just resting your hands together underneath your belly…

 

Think of the earth underneath you, now…the giving, nurturing earth. If your feet or legs are touching the ground, imagine that you can feel a warm, rose­pink glow emanating from the earth…

 

Imagine this rosey energy spreading from your feet…up your legs…and spreading through your abdomen…saturating the area underneath your navel…

 

Feel the warm, feminine, affectionate glow as you continue to sit with your hands cupped under your belly…

 

Now, envision the moon above. Think of its influence on your body…the gentle way its pull influences your natural rhythms….feel the cool silver­blue light emanating from the moon…and shining down on you…

 

As this light touches you, it spreads down through the crown of your head…to your forehead…feel the intuitive, inner­knowing energy that this blue light brings…

 

Feel the moonlight enrich your body as it moves just above your belly…take nice, deep, breath, and at the exhale, imagine that the earth energy and the moon energy meet at

 

the belly…the cool, blue moonlight meeting the rosey warmth of the earth energy….picture the colors dancing around…swirling together at the place of creation….

 

You may hold one hand above your belly, now, and one below as you balance these feminine energies…embracing the maternal…and allowing this experience to enhance your already­present motherly instincts and gifts…honor yourself, and your divine feminine nature…knowing that you can do anything…and that your caring, giving, and protective tendencies are fully supported and encouraged…

 

Enjoy this nurturing, empowering energy for the next few moments, and continue to breath deeply and steadily…

 

When you’re ready to end this meditation, place your hands gently back down at your

 

sides…open your eyes…and offer gratitude for this beautiful experience…
